Another medal winning Scot today brings our Olympic medal total to 53 and secures us 3rd place at the Games. It's the most impressive Team GB performance in a generation. And whilst the silver for Luke Patience in the sailing isn't as historic as Sir Chris Hoy's mighty triumph, the 10 victorious Scots can be justifiably proud of their role at the heart of the Olympic action. As the games draw to a close this weekend the nation looks forward to a homecoming celebration and ahead to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2014. A jury has heard how the man accused of murdering Perthshire pensioner Jenny Methven tried to cut his own throat, almost a month to the day after she died. The High Court in Glasgow heard how William Kean was admitted to a psychiatric hospital in Perth after he was found at his home, covered in blood. Mr Kean denies murdering the 80 year-old and blames her son for the murder. In other news, a teenager who killed his foster carer has been sentenced to seven years detention. He stabbed Dawn McKenzie more than ten times at a flat in Hamilton. The judge told the boy, who can't be named because of his age, he had carried out a "vicious" attack using a "high degree of violence". And in sport, ahead of this weekend's Edinburgh derby at Easter Road, Hibs boss Pat Fenlon admits his men have been "bullied" by Hearts in recent years. That on the day he signed Alan Maybury on a one year deal.
